The Joy that Never Came

The lines on her face like the waves on the sea
move gently as she tries to speak.
Her eyes filled with tears like water in the ocean
thinking of the days that might have been.

His face as tough as a man's ought to be
But his eyes reveal the hurt that he's buried deep.

He holds her hand
She looks into his eyes
They try to smile
but their sorrows they just cannot hide.

All alone and no one there
Left in a corner with no one to care.
No one to love except each other
No one to comfort in the lonely hours.

It's been a long journey,
Feels like the destination's here.
Tomorrow's come and gone
Left with nothing but tears.

Traveled through life
brave as the stars that remain
when the sun comes up.
Life's only regret
is the joy that never came.
